Here's a news report on facial treatments:

The Lousiville Courier-Journal reports on the latest:

The high-tech treatment: Omnilux photodynamic therapy What it does: It's FDA-approved to treat the most severe cases of acne and to remove pre-cancerous and (some) cancerous cells and wrinkles near the eyes. What it is: It's a form of LED (light-emitting diode) therapy that works at the microscopic (cellular) level. The various LED wavelengths target irregular skin cells, eliminate the bacteria that cause acne, stimulate collagen synthesis and destroy non-melanoma skin cancers. It has even been shown to aid in treatment of difficult skin disorders, such as vitiligo (loss of pigmentation) and psoriasis. "LED therapy is … permitting us to treat a variety of skin-related medical problems non-invasively," says Dr. R. Kevin Majzoub, a board-certified Louisville plastic surgeon. "Our acne patients benefit from a non-invasive, FDA-approved acne treatment that has no significant side effects -- as are commonly associated with antibiotic or other drug-related acne therapies. Today, we commonly treat cystic acne with the LED system and add a skin photosensitizer to improve the efficacy of the treatment. In the past, these patients only responded to Accutane therapy, which is associated with many side effects and must be monitored closely. "When treating non-melanoma skin cancers, the LED treatment is excellent for treating skin lesions on the face, often minimizing the need to physically excise the lesion -- which was the only option in the past."
