grew when they discovered they both had an interest in breast-reduction
surgery. They began the process together, 1,500 miles apart, with Ms.
Hall having her surgery in January 2003 and Ms. Beliveau having hers
a month later. “It isn’t the easiest thing to talk to your real-world
friends about,” Ms. Hall said. “More than having support is having someone
understand.” Among many buddy stories, Ms. Lewis, the consultant, said
she has a favorite: two women who were the first and second wives of
the same man. They had become chums following his death and decided
