But doctors and other experts caution that there are drawbacks: taking
a friend to a consultation can lead to competition for the attention
of the doctor, who may become distracted. And plastic surgery really
isn’t like buying new shoes — there are serious medical risks. Wendy
Lewis, a consultant in Manhattan who helps patients select plastic surgeons,
has a new rule: Only one client at a time. “I used to say, whatever,
I’d bill them separately and see them together,” Ms. Lewis said. “But
it can be a little bit ‘Desperate Housewives.’ I make them go back-to-back
now.”
