Publicist Jim Dobson (jim@indie-pr.com) responded Dec. 4 to my request to cover the party: "Thank you for your submission however we are completely sold out and the press line is also completely booked. Sorry I cannot accommodate your request."

Oh well, I got in anyway.

Robert emails: "Luke doesn't waste time with Brittney Spears, Lindsey Lohan... Instead he tries to get telephoto shots of Rabbi Lipshitz putting bacon bits on his salad. Scandal!"

Here's some info on Flaunt Magazine:

Flaunt is a monthly American fashion culture magazine founded by the current editor-in-chief, Luis Barajas, and creative director, Jim Turner, also the founders of Detour magazine. Long Nguyen, a third founder and style director, also was working on Detour for four years. Flaunt was established in September of 1998.

Inspiration

Inspired from the work of the 1950's era magazine Flair (founder Fleur Cowles established in 1950), Barajas and Turner attempt to integrate paper work inserts and layouts into the magazine. Some insert examples being:

* Issue 65 (July 2005) with Elijah Wood/ Jessica Alba on the cover featured a paper doll cowboy insert created with art by David Weidman, who was best known for his work on the Fractured Fairy Tales portion of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show (Jay Ward Productions)

* The cover for issue 8 (October 1999) featured a perforated face mask designed and drawn by David Bowie letting Flaunt readers become the "Thin White Duke" Issue 5 (June/July 1999) with Adrien Brody/LeeLee Sobieski on the cover featured an insert allowing the reader to build their own paper air stream travel trailer complete with paper propane tanks

* Issue 15 (June/July 2000) featuring James Van Der Beek/Brittany Murphy included an insert that allowed the reader to build their own version of the well-known Eames lounge chair.

Distributed in over twenty nine countries including the United States, Mexico, and Canada each of Flaunt's issues are themed, with recent examples being the Jewish Issue (Beastie Boys and Sarah Silverman) and Future Tense (Hayden Christensen and Bryce Dallas Howard). Flaunt also utilizes outserts or special edition covers quite often, which are then polybagged with the magazine. Recent examples include:

* Issue 75 (June/July 2006) that contains a black and white Beach Ball

* A comic book edition featuring Tobey Maguire (issue 34 May 2002) with a lenticular cover of Spider-Man, utilized paper similar to comic books, and "Flaunt Boy" of the month Bobby Hill from King of the Hill (Fox network)

* A bag of sand promoting the film, Sahara, featuring Penelope Cruz (Spring Fashion issue 62).

Flaunt is well known for its poor customer service. Instances have been reported where a subscriber would receive a copy of the magazine months late, then never receive another copy. Meghan Mahan reported that when she finally got hold of a PR spokesperson, "the [representative] didn't apologize for the missing issues, for the tardy reply, or anything else."[1] These complaints can only hurt Flaunt's reputation and facilitate a decline in readership.

Here are some links on lasik:

About LASIK
LASIK is a surgical procedure that uses a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. In LASIK, a thin flap in the cornea is created using either a microkeratome blade or a second laser. The surgeon folds back the flap, then removes some corneal tissue underneath using an excimer laser. The flap is then laid back in place, covering the area where the corneal tissue was removed.

With nearsighted people, the goal of LASIK is to flatten the too-steep cornea; with farsighted people, a steeper cornea is desired. LASIK can also correct astigmatism by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more normal shape.

If you are considering LASIK eye surgery, your first step is to choose a good LASIK surgeon who can evaluate whether LASIK is right for you. Your LASIK surgeon will examine your eyes to determine their health, what kind of vision correction you need, and how much laser ablation (corneal tissue removal) is required. The doctor will also ask about any health conditions that may disqualify you altogether for LASIK.

If you're not a candidate for LASIK, you may qualify for another laser eye procedure such as PRK (similar to LASIK but without the flap), LASEK, or epi-LASIK. There are also non-laser procedures that can correct your vision. Your prescription and eye structure will be considered to help determine which procedure is best for you.

LASIK is an outpatient procedure. The LASIK surgeon uses a computer to adjust the laser for your particular prescription. You will be asked to look at a target light for a short time while the laser sends pulses of light to painlessly reshape your cornea. The actual LASIK surgery usually takes less than five minutes.

Types of LASIK and Other Laser Eye Surgery:

PRK: The original laser eye surgery is still preferred by some surgeons.
Custom Wavefront LASIK: What makes it "custom?"
Epi-LASIK avoids using alcohol to remove the cornea's outer layer.
LASEK is a no-flap procedure used mostly for thin corneas.
IntraLase "Bladeless" LASIK uses a second laser, not a blade.
Presby LASIK is a possible solution for presbyopes.
Corneal Onlays/Inlays blend with your eye's surface.

Alternatives to Laser Eye Procedures:

CK for Hyperopia uses radio-frequency energy for corneal shaping.
Implantable Lenses (phakic IOLs) avoid removing corneal tissue.
Refractive Lens Exchange replaces your eye's natural lens.
