If I Stop Controlling Things…

Therapist: “Controlling meets our needs. I take care of others so that I don’t have to look at my issues such as feeling unworthy. If I stop judging others, I’ll have to look at how miserable my life is. If I stop giving advice to everyone, I’ll have to deal with how unimportant I feel. Controlling behaviors help us avoid looking at our issues and problems that we want to avoid. Controlling keeps us safe and less anxious.”
