High-Involvement Parenting

When I was growing up, I didn’t know any parents who were as involved with their kids’ lives (running them to and from practice, checking up on their homework, scheduling play dates, etc) as the typical middle-class parent is today (that I have seen).

Daniel: “That’s because these days, if left to their own devices, children can easily fall victim to Internet stalkers and misinformation, cyberbullies, 200 TV channels filled with sex, drugs and violence, and predators hanging out in parks and near schools. Contrast this with your childhood in the 70’s, where parents felt safe letting their kids play in the street and the toughest character on TV was The Fonz…Aaayyyyy!”

Chaim: “Smaller family size = greater investment in each child. I wonder how it is for parents with lots of children.”
